Sushi Takeda
About This Spot
Stepping into Sushi Takeda feels like entering a quiet retreat tucked into the bustling heartbeat of downtown Los Angeles. This intimate sushi bar, perched on the third floor of a modest building, invites you to slow down and savor each moment. The space is small—seating no more than eight guests around the sushi counter—creating an atmosphere that is both personal and focused, where the pace is thoughtful and the energy hums with quiet anticipation.
The soft murmur of conversation mingles with the delicate rhythm of the chef’s precise knife and deft hands, crafting each piece with care and tradition. Here, sushi isn’t just food; it’s a carefully choreographed experience. The offerings—seasonal fish selected with an expert’s eye, pristine cuts shaped into immaculate nigiri, and thoughtfully balanced rolls—unfold one course at a time, inviting you to appreciate subtle textures and fresh, vivid flavors. Each bite feels deliberate, sparking a quiet appreciation for the craftsmanship behind it all.
While the menu embraces familiar favorites, from delicate uni and salmon sashimi to inventive takes like sardine roll and seafood castella, it never feels predictable. The omakase experience especially highlights a steady rhythm, where surprising flavors meet comforting tradition in a way that softly delights without overwhelming. The attentive staff enhance this sense of ease and connection, making every visit feel like more than just a meal—it’s an event shaped by human care and quiet excellence.
For those who cherish sushi not just as cuisine but as a moment of refined simplicity and genuine warmth, Sushi Takeda offers an intimate and unhurried journey into the heart of Japanese craftmanship right in the city’s midst.

Sushi Takeda is easily one of the best omakase experiences in downtown Los Angeles. Chef Takeda brings an incredible mix of precision, warmth, and traditional technique that makes every course feel special. The ingredients are unbelievably fresh, the pacing is perfect, and the flavors are clean, refined, and deeply memorable. We also appreciated how balanced and approachable the menu is, with a nice mix of warm and hot dishes. The experience never feels intimidating and the food is beautifully prepared with absolute care. Chef Hide San is also incredibly friendly, humble and passionate about his craft which makes for a great experience from start to finish. Located on the third floor of Weller Court in Little Tokyo, Sushi Takeda is a hidden gem that is perfect for an elegant edomae style lunch or dinner. We have no doubt a Michelin Star will soon follow!

My fiancee and I came for the omakase course and it was literally So GOOD. Showed up at our reservation time and got seated right at the bar where the chef was making real life magic. I can't recommend it enough. It's a small bar for about 8 people, so make sure to check for availability online. We did the $180 omakase menu and it was worth EVERY PENNY. They don't validate parking, unfortunately but that's ok.

Surprisingly, this is the BEST sushi bar tasting I have ever had outside of Tokyo. If you like to judge sushi based on the quality of the fish, then add Sushi Takeda to the top of your list. Every course featured extremely high quality seasonal fish. Each piece was the best version of that animal I had ever had, especially the King Mackerel and the unique sardine sushi. You won’t find a random wagyu course or gold leafing here; the flavors are balanced and the natural fats and oils are never overpowered by heavy garnish. Some places in LA charge three times the price and it’s not always a perfect homeroom. Make an omakase reservation at the bar NOW! You won’t regret it!

Such a special experience for a first sushi omakase! As of July 2025, lunch omakase was $110 per person and we received a total of 17 nigiri and side dishes. The variety we were given at that price was astounding! Each individual plate ranged from very good to stellar bites! Many favorites throughout the lunch; the seared tuna nigiri and tuna belly, both fried whitefish, rice stuffed squid, fish custard, and especially the uni and fish eggs. Even the prepared rice was lovely every bite! The lunch was paced well and the courses flowed start to finish ending with very satisfied and quite full patrons. I have only praise for our lunch along with the service and atmosphere. Very welcoming to us, very attentive staff, and we didn't feel out of place just wearing casual clothes. We went on a Tuesday and while there were others seated at the tables we were the only ones at the bar for our full time there (so very special indeed). Reservations were made through ExploreTock and you make a per person deposit prior to arrival which is refunded after the meal. In the shopping center, restaurant is located on the 3rd floor above and behind the Kinokuniya bookstore. Look for the single wood door.

Wonderful experience. The chef was friendly and entertaining and prepared the most beautiful omakase for us. I keep ingredients- kosher and the chef was easily able to create a menu of only fish with fins and scales for me on advance request. He was careful about cross contamination too.
